Background
By 2050, the Dutch government aims to cut the country's greenhouse gas emissions to zero and meet all of its energy needs from sustainable sources. One of the strongest candidates for that shift is geothermal — energy drawn from the heat of the Earth's core. To find the best places to tap it, the government, together with the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research, launched a national seismic survey to map the country's subsurface.
Rossingh Drilling was appointed as the main contractor, and GIS consultancy DavSeis was brought in to manage and present the survey's spatial data to everyone involved. DavSeis chose Mango as its online GIS tool.
The problem Mango solved
The scale is hard to overstate: tens of thousands of square miles of terrain and a team of more than 300 people — 30 of them editing different kinds of geoinformation, and the data flowing out to departments, land owners, field crews, and many others besides.
Mango let all 30 editors make instant, over-the-air changes to the datasets from a tablet in the field, while the remaining 270 stakeholders could open the latest, most up-to-date map whenever they needed it. Making Mango the single source of truth for spatial data cut the friction out of a sprawling operation, as DavSeis's Vlad Cristian Nita explains:
With an online tool like Mango, it's easier to keep a track record of any changes. Everybody can then report to the GIS office and the GIS office can create maps. I provided each department with MoveeGIS/Mango and tablets so that people involved can easily access Mango and make updates online.

Results
Working alongside tools like GPSeismic and QGIS, Mango gives the survey team instant, always-current access to the project's vital spatial data, plus a central platform to deposit every update. Crucially, the team can take Mango into the field on a tablet and edit on the move — keeping a survey of this size running smoothly and fast.

If you have a survey or seismic project that needs an online GIS tool to present, manage, and share spatial data, Mango can help you keep everyone working from the same map.
