Background
Charlevoix County, Michigan — home to around 26,000 residents and a rich local history — has used Mango for its online GIS since May 2016. The county runs five public-facing maps plus two private, password-protected maps for internal work, covering the staples of local-government mapping: land parcels, tax roll, and school districts.
The trigger was straightforward: the county was launching a new website and needed a new online mapping application to go with it.
The problem Mango solved
Charlevoix chose Mango for two reasons that come up again and again with local government — it was easy to use, and the price was attractive.
Mango is a great out-of-the-box product that will allow you to get a professional product with minimal outlay of time and money.
Practically, that meant an approachable platform for building a user-friendly map that could be embedded directly into the county's new website — no specialist skills or long build required.
Results
Two improvements stood out for the county. First, a much richer set of query and export tools, which lets them offer better service to the public. And second, quicker, easier public access to information — residents finding what they need for themselves, on a map, without picking up the phone.
